Wind and kitesurfing enthusiasts are coming regularly to Viganja area as this is one of the best places in the world for practicing these sports. As it is located on the coast of narrow channel between peninsula Pelješac and island of Korčula, the wind here blows two times faster than in other places on the Adriatic.
Summer wind called Maestral (northwest) is ideal for surfing. This wind starts in the afternoon and it average strenght is about 5 beauforts but it can reach strength up to 8.
Mornings are suitable for beginners and afternoons for professionals.
Wind conditions are suitable for competitions and because of this Viganj was the host of many events such as World Cup 1989., European Championship 1990., Windsurfing World Championship 2013., and it traditionally hosts the Open Championship of Croatia and Croatian Cup.
Conditions for windsurfing in Viganj, Kuciste, Perna and Orebic are very good during the whole year. The temperature of sea does not fall below 15 degrees, and there's always plenty of wind.
In Viganj and Kuciste you will also find several schools for wind and kitesurfing where you can take a course or rent equipment.
